WACOM sketch

Its funny because I always seem to be a generation behind on technology. Whenever the new Madden or NBA Live comes out, I'm just getting the version from the year before. ( Because its cheap) Now everybody in comics is getting the Cintiq. I am getting used to drawing more freehand with my WACOM. I think its great I color with it and do little fill in correction type stuff now with it but thats about it. / I'm trying to get to where I can draw with the thing. I'll never get rid of my paper becaue I just like the feel, but its a useful skill. Here is one of my first all WACOM sketches.

Process

I figured it would be cool to post one of my original drawings for a strip. This is the original sketch for today's strip. I draw them usually on illustration board with a 4h or HB pencil. One of those deals with no eraser, just the metal topper. I rule it all out so that it will be the right dimensions and everything and I essentially end up erasing the lines becaue I put them back in on the computer. I inked with Microns up until about two weeks ago, I have been using a crow quill pen and ink lately. I forget which kind right now. Oh well. It is drawn on half of a 11x17 illustration board. These are for sale by the way. But now, the original is inked and the pencil lines have been erased. As artists, its always neat to see the original art before its inked or digitally colored or what have you. Go see the strip inked, cleaned up and digitally lettered by the way, if you didn't get here from there already.

Hulk

I did this ballpoint pen sketch in church. Don't worry I could still hear the word while I was scribblin in my lil sketchbook. I love drawing the Hulk for some reason. I usually go straight to the green guy when I'm just doodling. He's just a fun character to draw. I also do alot of Spider-man too. There have been so many different artists interpretations of him. I am loving Ed McGuinness''s version in the new Red Hulk series. I love his style. I'll get there one day . LOL I'll just keep practicing and trying to get better. The Hulk movie is freaking awesome by the way. I am one of the view peopl that didn''t think the first one was that bad. It needed improvement by far, but it was solid, to me. Ok, now that I've seen the new one, the first one now sucks to me. They nailed it from Ed Norton's potrayal of Banner to the action sequences it was all good. Thank You Marvel for and Louis Letterier for doing it right!

sketches

Part of the main purpose for me having this blog was to post spme sketches regularly to show what kinds of things go through my head and o show my versatility I guess.

Here is a sketch I admit is about a month old. It is for a postponed project I wanted to do about a crazy, drunken rabbit. Kind of a rags to riches story. I still might do it, so stay tuned. My first character I made up whenI was probably 7 or 8 years old was Randy the Rabbit who later became Randy the Hare because people kept saying I was copying Roger Rabbit. I wasn't of course, but hey. So I have a special place in my heart for rabbits and I told myself I wanted to revisit that and go back to myt rooots at some point.

I just finished Thursdays trip. Its late and I am tired and the baby has not gone to sleep yet, I did alot of the computer stuff actually with him on my lap. Until he wanted to fuss of course. but that made getting it done that much more satisfying. Thats it for now. Peace

Crow Quill Pens

Today I did my second strip with a crow quill pen. It is in no way a new pen, Ive had the thing forever because I heard or read that some artist I liked used one. So I decided to crack the thing open for a change and try it out. I am actually liking the crow quill. It takes a little longer than my beloved microns, but it has an obviously more organic look.
Be sure and check out the strip, link to it, tell all your friends. A brotha is working hard to make this thing good and as proffessional as I can. I'm trying to step my game up more with each strip. I'm watching Semi-Pro on DVD as I write and its pretty funny. Same old Will Ferrel schtick, which I like. Poor Andre 3000. I am the hugest Outkast fan ever. My all time favorite group. But that man could not act for crap. He cannot shake that deep south Atlanta accent for anything, which is hilarious. Oh yeah! Go see Kung-Fu Panda! If you are an artist and like animation, to not be a Pixar movie it is the most beautiful. The way the color schemes change to fit the tone of the story. Aw man, its gorgeous. And its funny too. Until next time folks, keep the peace.
