The New Book

I am hard at work still on the latest Lil Dude book. It is a christmas book and I unfortunately was not able o get it done in ti,me for christmas seeing as it has just passed. But, I am still going to get it done. And I will still show it to whoever will look. here is a half of a page, no words, no gray scaling, it is in the rough lineart scanned version. But I have been dying to show something from what I have been working on.

My contest Entry

One of the websites I frequent is the parka blogs. It is a blog that is dedicated to posting reviews and images of art books that come out for movies, specific artists, etc. If you know anything about artists and illustrators, you know we loooove art books like the art of How To Train Your Dragon, or the Art of Toy Story, etc. Well I love the site. Anyways, they had an art contest in honor of the christmas holidays. The theme was Kung Fu Santa. So I was dying to win an art book of my choice, which was the prize, but I did not win. I put everything into my little image, but hey, those are the breaks. Luckily, the site posted all of the entries. My name is listed under mine. There are some really creative entries. Check it out at the link:

I beat a video game!!!! Yay

I get to play games like 5 times a year nowadays it seems like. Well twoo weeks ago I had a couple of free hours. (Well I had a couple hours where the rest of the family was sleep and I didn't feel like doing anything constructive) and I beat God of War 2! I know right, the games years old but its a big deal to me! It only took me about a year and a half! I love the game and the design. I just love that mythology stuff. Inspired this quick sketch in regular ol' ballpoint pen.

Sketchbook doodles

I sketch things constantly whenever I am just chillin anywhere. If its not in my sketchbook its on the back of something or a receipt or whatever's lying around. I don't know why it took me this long to think to start posting my sketches. I guess when I look around the blogger-sphere most of the people I admire post what seem to be such clean finished drawings. When I have recently really paid attention I see there are sketchy dodles all over. I was just too insecure about my own work I guess. Well I am going to start so I can have more regular posting.

Book of Eli

I saw this movie on opening weekend so this is waaay late now. Nonethe;ess, i did the quick piece so I wanted to post it. The movie, I loved. There were a few things here and there that required your sense of movie logic to kick in, but hose are the things that sometimes give you that experience you go to the movies for in the first place. There was a fantastic faith based message in there for us, but also a kick you know what action hero in a violent post apocolyptic landscape. Cool movie. I recommend it.

Quick Sketch Review: The Hurt Locker

The hurt locker, is a great action movie, it does not even need to be set in Iraq. That is not a bad thing, but it needs to be known that this is in almost no way a political movie, nor does it try to make a statement. It only tries to make you tense and nervous...and it succeeds wonderfully. This movie is one intense sequence after another. A military bomb squad in Iraq going to assignments when a roadside bomb is suspected or seen is a set piece for some of the most intense action you'll see in any movie. Once you see it, you'll see what all the hype is about. This movie is like knowing you're going to get a spanking and the switch has been drawn back in the striking position and waiting for it, but you're not sure if mom will reconsider. that is this movie from beginningh to end. (You have to see my Inglorious Bastards review to get the context.)

Quick Sketch Review: Inglorious Bastards

One of the best movies of the year with out a doubt. There is not alot more to be said about them than hasn't already been reiterated over podcastss and movie review sites. But I will explain how these great movies made me feel. Inglorious bastards is a film fan's movie. It makes so many references to great films not in content, but in style, that are too numerous to mention. the strength of this movie, which is deceptively not filled with action, is in its pacingh. It is slow. However, it is masterfully crafted. Quentin Tarantino has a way of using long scemnes of dialogue, very intersting dialogue about not a whole lot by the way, to build tension. Inglorious bastards from start to finish is like Your mom or dad telling you you're going to get a spanking for something you did, but not telling you when, or where. They just drop that sweat inducing piece of info to make you anticipate uncomfortably for what is about to happen but because everything is so ordinary, you have no idea when the bomb will be dropped. that is inglorious bastards, and it is so fun to experience.

Quick Sketch Review:Sherlock Holmes

Going in to Sherlock Holmes you expect Robert Downey Jr. to be awesome becasuse he always is. He was born to play Tony Stark(Iron Man), and now I believe the same about Sherlock Holmes. His and Jude Law's chemistry is so fun and interesting thatthat alone is worth seeing. Its Holmes so there has to be a myster, which is good, but there are only so many different ways a crime can be committed and its only in how it is solved that makes it interesting. Holmes and Watson's way of using their keen observation skills in true classic-Holmes fashion make the standard play very fresh and fun. They have an Odd couple-esque relationship in that Holmes is so brilliant but a mess and Watson is not quite as brilliant but brilliant none- the- less and is much more refined and classy. The trailers I might add do not do the film justice. Don't think you are going to see slapstick action and Wild Wild West 19th century contraptions, because this movoe is not that at all. I thought the same thing, buty I had a feeling it wold be more than that and I was right. Lastly, the unsung hero, the 6th man in this movie is Guy Ritchie's sense of setting and atmosphere in this movie. Studios could save a lot of money on 3D if they were able to get directors to do what Guy Ritchie does here,. The drab grays and grimy streets of old London are so convincing you feel like you are there. I don't know all the cinematic nuances to make this achievement but it works and it works well. I recommend it,.
